I was waiting for nurses to come on shift this am:nurse:. The supply clerk came to the desk and sat down beside me which she rarely ever does but it didn't bother me. But, this morning I could tell she had a cob up her fanny about something:mad:. Well, during the noc when making rounds I noticed several of the patients didn't have turning/ reposition wedges. I wrote up the req and left it in her office door. When she timed in she saw the req. I had left her a note with the req asking for info on O2 concentrators. We have had a lot of pneumonia in the past month at our LTC facility. All I asked if she might have had an extra one in supply room. I am the only nurse on noc's and can't get into the supply room b/c of missing items:nono:. The only one's with key's are the DON, supply person, and the adm. Anyway, she became defensive over this and began yelling at me at the nurses station. I kindly reminded her she was in charge of getting supplies on the floor that patients need:twocents: and she came unglued demanding to know who all had a concentrator and were the spare ones were located. Now, I had been off for the weekend and when I left on Saturday morning to my knowledge there were no spare concentrators on the floor. I attempted to explain this to her and she stormed away just as an RN arrived. I am an LPN and she was a med tech until our facility done away with med techs and went to LPN's passing meds. I had had a crazy noc and was worn out by the time cna's and this supply person arrived:bugeyes:. I didn't think leaving a note for a conc. was such a big ordeal. Well, she got down the hall and started taking inventory of the conc. situation and found that the one missing was in our Alzheimer's unit with a patient currently using it with an order on the chart:uhoh21:. I reported to the RN who came in this girl's actions and the RN is going to report to the DON. I really don't understand what the fuss was about:confused:. May be she needs to make a sign out sheet for the conc. and possibly keep track that way. Right now there is nothing to keep track of them to my knowledge at this time. Thanks for listening to a stress out clueless nurse.:lol2::lol2:

"little "people" tend to over-compensate whenever anyone points out their shortcomings. She needs to be counseled for her attitude.

Someone on every shift needs to have access to supplies-that's just dumb.Also-she needs to have a better handle on supplies on the unit-she needs to look at how she is controlling her inventory. What would have happened over the weekend if someone went down the tubes and needed O2 and a concentrator was not available? Your unit went all weekend without a back-up? I think the person who took it for the Alzheimer's unit really dropped the ball-they should have notified the on -call admin to come in and open up the supply closet-do that often enough and someone will make sure a key is available to staff at all times.

The DOH would LOVE to hear about that.Ditto with those wedges-if that is being signed off on your TAR's or is in each resident's plan of care and you get audited and they are not really there then you have trouble.-
