Nursing Standards?

Can any one tell me what are the "ANA nursing standards"?

Why are they important?

And...on ANAs web. site,it says theses standards are a "MUST" for all nurses. Why are these standards a "MUST"?

Thank you

As I said the ANA web site says the ANA standards are a'MUST' for all nurses.

So I became interested in purchasing them and familiarizing my self with them,but then found out the ANA charges $300.00 for the entire packet of the standards. Whats up with that? If there so important and such a must maybe they should be made affordable so nurses can get access to them.

Is ANA for AMERICAN NURSES?...like the standards you've mention?

let me know:D :D

re cost of the standards: all professional organizations have standards against which the profession is judged. think of it as your hospital, facility's or agency's policy and procedure manual, which if deviated from, a person may be disciplined or used as basis of a lawsuit for not meeting standards of care. the need for periodic committee review and publishing is what determines the price. an individual nurses needs to be aware of the general standards (above) and the standards for their practice setting. individual standard cost is $14.95 for nonmembers/sna members $11.95. this is a 32 page booklet.

the 24-title set of ana's nursing standards (each a multipage booklet) contains the standards of clinical nursing practice (2nd edition), plus one each of the current standards in 22 other areas of nursing practice cost $320/sna members $250.00.

each standard when released is published in the ajn journal.
