Dear friends,
I am a missionary living in El Salvador. My wife is from Guatemala and speaks english. We have been thinking about the time when we would return to Canada to live and the career
opportunities for her. Do you know if there are a Nursing degree that someone can study by correspondence. I know that there is always a nursing shortage as I have been just reading the
newspapers in PEI about the situation there and in Alberta. We would like to know the possibilities that we can pursue...
thanks in advance
sincerely

I don't know for sure, but I would think that due to clinical and lab requirements it would be next to impossible to get a nursing degree through correspondence courses. Anyone know for sure?

You could look into the possibility of completing the nursing pre-requisite courses by correspondence. Then, when you returned to Canada, she would only have the clinical classes left. This may also depend on when you are planning to return. I don't know about Canadian schools, but some U.S. schools will not accept pre-requisites if they have not been taken in a certain time window prior to starting nurse's training.

That's correct Cen135. At my school, if, for example, you took A&P, chem, algebra or writing classes greater than fours years ago, they do not apply as prereq's to enter the nursing program.

Well Mario.....at my school here in PA they took pre-reqs from almost 20 years ago because there is such a shortage.
Good luck Wayne......there are many opportunities available, it may just take some time to find the one that fits your needs.
