NP burn out, needing a change.

I've been practicing as an FNP for almost 3 years now and I am burning out. I am not liking primary care. It's just too much. I rather know a lot about one thing, than trying to be good at everything. I really abhor filling out and signing disability forms, DMV, and paper work etc... Originally I really wanted to become a cardiac NP, but I graduated from an accelerated program and had no bedside RN experience. I was lucky enough to even find a full-time FNP position in 2012 when the economy was dark. I sometimes pondered if being a bedside RN would be better with fewer responsibilities. I am not sure to how I would be a able to get into specialty care. Should I apply for a bedside RN position? Who would hire me from an NP to an RN without any bedside experience. I have been employed at an FQHC for a 1.5 years seeing 20+ patients/day and now working in a large health care cooperate similar to Kaiser. I like seeing patients, but I feel my candle is burning low in this primary care arena.

Have you even applied for any specialty positions in your area? It never hurts to apply to anything...the worse that happens is they don't call you. When I first graduated there was a cardiac NP position in my are (my dream too) but they wanted experience. I did apply and they never called. Oh well. I'm enjoying my primary care position for now and trying to learn how everything works together.

When I hit 3 years in primary care I may feel like you as well and I'll start looking elsewhere.

Perhaps even drop your resume off at any private practice MD's around you since they may not really have a website. Maybe they have been mulling hiring a NP and you're the answer to their prayers.
