Medical Model v. Nursing Model

So...was looking for some feedback. Trying to explain the difference to someone. Best explanation I have heard is one is a scientist the other is a scientist and caregiver rolled into one. One mostly cares to treat the disease where the other is more a holistic/educator/treat the pt approach.

Is this homework for school?

No, not in school currently. Coming from EMS as a paramedic and it comes up more as social question.

1. The medical model focuses most on curing the disease -- and the pathology underlying it.

2. The nursing model focuses most on providing care for the person who has a disease (or injury). Nursing makes a commitment to provide care to meet whatever needs the patient has -- not just those focusing on getting rid of the disease or injury.

However ... there is considerable overlap and both professions and discipline include content in the other's focus area. The best nurses also try to cure when they can -- and the best physicians also try to provide holistic care when they care. They just place their emphasis on different aspects.
