Med Pass: Acute vs LTC

Stealing a post from another thread..

"..In my facility, we have a med-pass system that makes it nearly impossible to make a med error. It tells you what to give, what time, your 2 hour window is color coded and if any meds happen to interact, an alert screen pops up to let you know. It is the easiest part of my job."

Speaking to med pass in a LTC/rehab only, how much pharmacology and general disease mgmt knowledge is needed/utilized?

Or put another way, is there a significant difference in knowledge required to admin meds between rehab and med surg?

Or an RN coming from LTC would be expected to have rounded understanding of common meds used in the chronic illness/geriatric populations?
