Managing your own health as a travel nurse?

  1. Hey everyone,

So my question is if anyone has experience as a travel RN that had any chronic health issues they had to manage while being on various state assignments?

I ask this because my SO has a job offering in California and we are considering moving to CA between the summer to fall of 2018. I've heard horror stories of how difficult it is for nurses to obtain a job there, and considering that I will only have 18-24 months of medsurg and pediatric experience and only my ADN, I'm not exactly feeling confident about entering the job market. So I've been considering possibly doing travel assignments, but I'm unsure of how I would balance 13 week assignments while staying on top of receiving my Remicade infusion every 8 weeks? I've had Crohn's and been on Remicade since I was 12 years old. It's been a life saver for me! I suppose I could talk to my doctor about transitioning to Humira, but I'm extremely hesitant to do so because prior to Remicade, my Crohns was so poorly managed that I had to have an illeocectomy. Besides this, however, I'm a healthy 23 year old.

So is there anyone else who has experience and can provide insight to how you managed your health and arranged doctor's appointment while boucing state to state?

What part of California are you planning to move to?

Ideally, we would relocate to or at least close to San Francisco because that is where my SO had his job offer.
