I need help in terms of information. My name is Eileen, I am an ARDS survivor and also President of the ARDS Foundation, a national, not for profit organization dedicated to supported those with ARDS, and their families, raising public awareness, education, and funds for research.

I get asked this question often, but never have adequate answers ... regarding vent facilities, throughout the country, when a patient is being moved out of the hospital. Often the families receive suggestions, sometimes not more that one option, regarding where to send their loved one, and often they are given one days to make this decision.

Some of these facilities have a very poor weaning record for vent patients and so I am painstakingly attempting to create my own list, in light of the fact that I have emailed every organization I can find and no one is able to give me a list of LTAC facilities.

Currently, I have about forty hospitals on my own list, not counting Kindred and other multiple hospital listings. If anyone can either help me by letting me know about a list or letting me know about facilities around the US or Canada, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your time, Eileen

My mother was in ICU on a vent for 2 months in New Jersey (perforated ulcer while visiting my sister). She had a history of ARDS following another surgery a couple of years ago. My stepfather was able to get her moved to Nashville, TN to Select Specialty (I think that is what it is called, it's attached to Baptist). After some setbacks she was weaned off the vent and back home after another 2 months.

Thanks; when I looked up the address for that hospital, my search located a site where I found eight LTAC facilities in TN. Right now, I have about fifty. When I have a decent representation of facilities around the US, hopefully Canada, too, we will post them and hopefully people will give us feedback as well. I Have mostly heard only about Vencor (Kindred).

Glad to hear that your sister is doing better. I myself was vent dependent but weaned in the hospital with the help of my terrific nurses! :)

...is affiliated with St Vincent's in Indy. There is also one in Carmel, IN. Hope this helps you.

Thanks, found those two, plus a third in Indiana and a link to all Indiana hospitals.

Thank you! We have created, with all of the help we received here, help we gained from others off of our site who actually had family sent to LTAC facilities, a list...

If anyone is interested, we have our first temporary list at this link:

http://www.ardsil.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000049

And we will update and create a second list, and make it permanent on the website, some with web addresses, and also a list of resources at the bottom, articles and other links as well, so if you have patients or families who need to decide among a number of LTAC facilites, perhaps this will be of help to them as well.

Thanks, Eileen

we send our LTAC pt's to Lloyd Nolan Hospital @ Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL. They have done wonders with people I was suprised to see survive.
