Just wondering how healthcare reform will impact the nursing profession.

Nurses General Nursing

Any thoughts? Honestly, I really don't know how it's going to impact my job in the future. I guess only time will tell. I just hope my taxes don't get raised and my wages cut. I'm guessing that's what is most likely to happen.

HR 3200, (The Senate version) as far as I have gotten in perusing the 1,017 pages, has nothing related to nursing. HR 676, however, does (this is the Congressional Reps version - or House version). The government will have complete control over all of it, and also what facilities stay open, what kind of equipment you have, etc. Your taxes will go up, directly or indirectly, as instituted by a "federal tax", or VAT (Value added tax) as much as 35%. You won't see is as a tax, but will notice how expensive things are getting - i.e., the businesses are taxed, not you, per sae. Another tax suggested in HR 676 is a "moderate progressive income tax". The more you make, the higher your tax percentage is taken out. If you would like more info, I suggest going to http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ and click onto legislation. Another site is http://thomas.loc.gov/, put in the health care bill numbers.

There is more legislation out there but it is not brought to consideration or vote, as there is alot of politics involved. Search, research and make an informed decision on how you stand. But most of all, be aware. Best wishes, a critical care nurse.
