Job shadowing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi all, I just wanted to share with you my day. I made a contact and got to shadow a Director of Nursing, Head administrator, PT, OT and speech pathologist. I was there for 6 hours and learned so much. I thought administration was the way for me but forgoet it. I wouldn't get paid enough. The DON was so negative but made such sense. She said if she had to do it over that she would go into therapy. I liked what the speech pathologist had to say but she was a new grad. Do any of you know more about what a pathologist does? Pay? I think my values are not correct. I am looking to help people. I guess my standards have changed. I said I was more into enconomic status and prestige but I didn't realize the stress that comes with it. I would be truly happy just having a therapy job but which one? They are all good.

I didn't follow a social worker. I hear that is a good job also. I think I would be a good OT. I do worry about stability. I don't want to gradaute and then find I am searching for a job. That is why I thought nursing would be a good fit. You never have to worry about a job. Maybe I am wrong.

I just wanted to share my experience with you and get some feedback. What do you think?

Thanks, Jennifer
