Hi all, i need some feed back please. let's call my coworker maria. : Excellent nurse, knowledgeable, very loud and inapropriate at the station, extremely popular with the doctors and interacts w/ them not only as equals, any joke, criticism, demand or so on from her is cute and welcome. she loves the popularity and it does not bother me besides the loudness. i had My DNR pt had been in coma for a couple of days. i was doing great with the family (honest, as usual) and i looks like this RN had been this pt's Rn before. i received transfer orders for this pt . the daugher came to me as i was on the phone giving report, she seem frustrated. i asked if she want to talk. as i did this, maria stopped by us and took over the conversation turned the chart from me towards her to verify the order as if i was invisible, stupid, uncapable, unsuportive and so on. "do you want me to talk to the charge RN?", she offered, I had to continue my phone report and "ignored this" my charge requested that i held the transfer until 3pm b/c the daugther -------------. i agreed. the pt passed at 13:45. her 86 year old husband was alone w/ her and i had to brake the news to him. i took the ventimask off to make her look more apealing althought she looked like a cadaver for days, i had not even been able to keep her mouth closed. i chose not to remove adapter or NGT until the husband spent some time with her. another coworker of mine offered and stayed w/ him for a minute while i went to call the daugther. i spent time with dad, conforted him and just stayed w/ him until daugther came. shortly after the son in law came in and both cried unconsalable. i closed the curtain and gave them some privacy. again i did not pull things off the pt b/c i they were still crying and huging her. i then explained to the son in law when he requested tha i will be happy to remove tubes which will be fast and simple but we need to take dad out of the room fo a minute or two. he requested that we waited for daugther. when she came in we hugged and i asked her to call me when she is ready for me to take the NGT off and so on. 15 mi after Maria yields to me as she walks to med room and in a judmental tone. "the family is requesting that you take tubes off. in two sentences and defensive i explained that i was wating for the to be ready, as she closed the door to talkk about me to 4 other coworkers in the med room. she said" you were supposed to do it as soon as the pt passes. Even though i did not say that i was busy or late or overwelmed, i finished doing something to the tele monitors and in :( i told her" please don't do this, she is my pt and i told you why i didn't do this before, you are making me feel uncapable and inefficent. she argued and left the room to tell every soul what had happened and how unfair i am.:o
