Nurses General Nursing

Congratulations on choosing a challenging but rewarding profession. Unless it is required or expected by the nursing program you anticipate attending, working in a health care setting in addition to your school clinical experience is not a necessity. However, by working in a hospital, for example, as a nursing assistant, you may develop your organizational skills, teamwork skills, interpersonal skills, and conflict management skills, and clinical skills in a way that will enhance your school clinical experience.

Good Luck!

I am a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii and my goal is to become a Registerd Nurse. I am currently enrolled in the University of Hawaii, Leeward Community College. Right now I am taking my prerequisites for the nursing program at Kapiolani Community College. My ultimate goal is to recieve my Bachelor's/Master's in Nursing.

I am at that start of my journey and frankly I just don't know where to begin.

It was advised to me to get nurses aide training and a years experience in that field before applying to the nursing program, this would give me some status on my application. I figure that while taking my prerequisites might as well get some experience in the nursing field. Would you advise this?

I am seeking any info. you can provide me with-Thanks!!

Hi,

My nursing school required us to have experience before being accepted into the program. Many of us volunteered at local hospitals doing whatever. I was in the Physical Therapy dept., mostly answering phones, but it gave me the experience I needed in order to meet my school's requirement. Good luck in the future.

HI

Start at the community college to complete all your prereq's...english..math (finite) and other math classes..all the sciences-- intro to biology.. biology..microbiology..intro to chemistry..organic chemistry..anatomy/physiology..humanity courses (that are transferiable to the University of you choice)..computer classes..

Upon completion of these courses you will be able to enter the nursing program of your choice starting with all nursing classes..

As far as working as a Nurses Asst. that is your preference you will gain confidence and experience in the hospital setting and with providing patient care which is a valuable tool during clinicals. I hope this help you to decide your course schedule.

Hi Lsalvat,

I second KBCRNBSN's post. I also like what Lesliee had to say. I agree with what Ajsand42 had to say about general college courses. Best wishes.

Specializes in none.

Hello LSalvat, I was wondering if you take the ADN test yet? I'm planning to take it but, don't know what books to study on? Do you know any good study sources? Thanks..
