Where is the best place to start an IV on an active 18 month old?

In our hospital, we always start it in the hand unless that is completely impossible. And we just had a couple of children about that age who were active. We just make sure to put it on a board and wrap it up well. There was one child whose IV began to come out while in his sleep (from moving) but we were able to save it. I have just graduated and the nurses on our pediatric unit told me on my buddy shift that starting the IV in a child is not the hard thing, it's wrapping it to make sure it stays in!

Forearm. I agree with the above poster, it's not usually hard to start them, unless someone doesn't hold the child well. But it can be hard to keep them in.
