If a few of nurses wanted to get together and start a union in a "right to work" state, how would they go about it? I know it's possible.

Any information would be wonderful:)

I think this is a start.

psychrn03, thank you.

I am thinking more along the lines of getting a union up and running in a state that has no voice. Unlike my state, California. That information you've provided is important. What would you recommend as far as "starting" one, gathering support, etc?

Do you think it would be more difficult in a "right to work" state where the pay is less and the working conditions are deplorable?

I'm pretty certain the CNA is more than willing to travel outside CA; I know they were in TX a few months ago.

Unfortunately I don't have the expertise to answer your other question.

Thank you, appreciate your information:) Never thought to contact the CNA about unionizing outside of California.

The CNA is in competition with other organizations to be the representative body for unionized nurses across the country. I have never worked with them but I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you get started. As an alternative, you can contact your state nurses assoc. Most have a collective bargining branch and can help with the initial steps. Be careful! You need to stay under the radar as long as you can. It's illegal to fire someone for talking about collective bargining on thier own time but most instatution would be more than willing to get rid of you for any number of "legitimate" reasons if they get wind of you trying to unionize. If you have read my other posts you know I am a big fan of nurses unions to make our voice heard but if you want to be sucessful keep your head down and watch your Ps and Qs.
