Hello,

I am in need of some help. I am a nurse working in LTC. The problem is that I have recently completed went form being a LPN to an RN. My company since the very next day has made me supervise the building and take my floor.:crying2: I am stressed out and over welled with it all.:uhoh3: I have received no training on how to supervise and just wing it as I go. If anyone could please help me out by posting there normal work routines for 7-3 and 3-11 as a supervisor I would forever be grateful. :heartbeat Help I don't know what to do?:nurse:

hi there

you need to speak up and request proper training... remember, taking on that role you are ultimately responsible what takes place... if you don't and continue to wing it, you're setting yourself up...

Yep. Been there, done that. I did not have management experience before earning my nursing degree. I've managed to survive and so will you. Your company should at the bare minimum give you your job description and at least a couple of days shadowing someone to know the routine. I shadowed someone on night shift for three days. I didn't orient to the other shifts, and just ended up "winging it" as you have described. In this economy, some companies take advantage. The bottom line: always ask questions, patient safety first, and complete vital paperwork i.e. code status, consent to treat, initial assessment including fall, pain and skin assessment. Use common sense and always put your license first, not the company bologna.

ETA: Insist on some type of training! It is your license, and your company will "throw you to the wolves" should something go wrong.

What? You would like to be trained in your position to be a more efficient, viable manager??? jk, being totally sarcastic because healthcare always wants to NOT do the right thing. I like the poster who said get your job description. Because if it is not in your job description you should not be doing it. Then if there is anything in there you haven't been trained for, let them know you need someone to shadow or at least be available to you. Good Luck!! We have all been there.
