I just want to run this by someone.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

When I left hospital work early in 2000 I was making $17.30 an hour. I have done very little in the way of patient care except for a few days here and there on LTC since then. I have just been offered $19.60 by a small community hospital to return to the business. There is no other profession in the world where you could take nearly two years off and come back with a big raise. Plus I will be getting very good shift diffl and weekend diff. I am going to take a shot at it. Honestly, it is not the money in my case. I am bored and lonely(my youngest child has just left home). I admit I was a mental wreck when I quit but I have healed. The overwork will be much easier to take for me because I can pull out at anytime if I find myself under excessive stress. When I left nursing last year I thought I was a failure and a loser. The truth that I see now is that I was a pretty tough sister who knew when to act to save her own life. I have some chronic health problems but they are under control and I can pass a physical. I will only be in for two shifts a week and if I get mandated here and there I will be able to handle it. The nurse manager talked pretty straight with me and she tells me she only mandated two times in the past year. She told me exactly what it is like out there now. I just smiled cause I know exactly what goes on out there.

Hi oramar. I think there's a point to be made with your experience of stepping out of nursing for awhile and stepping back in after introspection, and I hope relaxation. Would like to hear how things are going with you and your job in 3-6 months. Best wishes.

Yes it will be interesting to see how things turn out. I might last one hour, one day or 1 year, we will see, we will see.
