I can't believe it, I just got my dream job!

Nurses General Nursing

Years ago I left an accounting desk job for nursing. After a few years of working in nursing homes and hospital med/surg units and having to take care of too many patients at once, I either wanted my desk job back or I wanted to do private duty. Well I finally got private duty and that was my first dream job. If it was up to me I would have retired in that position with the patient that I had. The patient was an absolute angel, and her family has to be some of the kindest people I have ever met from the grandparents down to the other children. After leaving this position, I was able to find another private duty position with another angel patient. But this position is only part time and the mother has a few control and other issues. Also, I have another 30 years to work before I can retire and I can't see myself lifting patients as an older nurse, I already have backaches. So I applied for a desk position that I saw advertised in the paper 2 weeks ago. I interviewed and I just found out today that I got the job! (I was calling the interviewer to find out about the status of the job and she said that she was just thinking about me :).) It's with a well known home health company who is going to start doing telehealth with some of their patients. As it was explained to me, a piece of equipment that collects weights and vital signs is put into a patient's home. The information from the equipment will be transmitted to a computer in our office and I will be the one monitoring it. My other responsibilities include scheduling the nurses for patient visits, answering phones and calling doctors' offices for various things. This kind of job seems perfect for my type A personality. I am just over the moon that I was able to get my second dream job. It sounds like my dream job anyway. I guess I won't really know until I actually start doing it, but my attitude is extremely positive. I prayed and prayed that I would get this job and God answered my prayers. Thank you God! Thank you for letting me realize that I needed to research interview etiquette and for finding out about the power of the 'interview thank you letter'. I'm sure it helped my cause. That and the scary nurses my interviewer said that she interviewed along the way. :lol2: :smiley_aa

Congratulations!!! :balloons:

I've read about these telehealth systems but I've never seen one in operation. I hope that it's everything you hope it will be.

Another fine example that nursing isn't all backbreaking labor and that there really is something for everyone.

As I understand it, a nurse will still visit with these patients at least once a week. The equipment is for better monitoring of the patients. If they're having blood pressure or weight gain problems we can call them right away and make sure they're taking their medicine or call the doctor, rather than them having to wait for their next nurse's visit.

Thanks all for the well wishes.

I've seen those machines and they are very comprehensive. They can be programmed for specific things as well. GOod for you!
