How much more is RN salary without bennies?

Hi guys! This is of interest to me. I was talking to a friend who said her cousin, an RN, had a significant amount of $ added to her hourly wage because she decided to forgo benefits. Her husband carries the healthcare, so they don't need it from her job, too.

Is there anyone on here who has done this, or know someone who has? What is your base, and how much extra got added if you turned down bennies? Thanks in advance guys! It's SO nice to belong to an online community like this one where we can ask all kinds of questions we wouldn't DARE ask otherwise LOL!

Here new grads get $23.50 while pre-cepting, $24.00 first year, and PRN/Premium Pay with no bennies but with 401K is $44.00/hr. hoo-yeah! I can't wait to get to month 12. One nurse I work with said his salary went up $25,000 in one year when he went to Premium Pay!

Fortunately in our area, people are so transient that there is rarely a call off, and if there is they ask for volunteers, but even the Premium Pays get a guarantee of 24 hours a week with a requirement to work 3 weekend days per month. Not a bad deal at all in my book.

I saw an add in the local newspaper yesterday for butt-crack showing Air-conditioning/heating repairmen paying $25/hr and I have to admit I found that to be a little frustrating considering how much more responsibility I have and I STILL get less money. I know many others in here live in areas where the pay is even less, but I live in one of the most congested highest cost of living areas in the country.

I guess experience versus education is not always the issue, it's DEMAND! We just have to wait until all the baby-boomers start needing in-pt. admissions and tele monitors before our Demand equals our value! :trout:
