Just wondering what amount are the hospitals and facilities offering as a sign on bonus? I will be getting $3000.00 after three months at a rehab hospital! I've seen other offers for $3000 and up to $5000 but I don't know how long you have to work at the hospital to get it. I am also able to earn an extra $2000 annually based on level/acheivement.
Right. thats why sign-on bonuses do not work. Not many places here are offering them. A few that cant get nurses to work there are offering $3000 - $5000 for a 1 - 2 yr committment. Most others are putting their resources to increasing the starting salaries for new nurses, increasing the longevity/experience differentials for experienced nurses, improving the benefits package & pension plans, etc. - with a focus on retention. Sign on bonuses do nothing for for retention.
We do not get paid extra for working weekends & thats because thats how we want it. Doing it that way makes the w/e like any other day of the week - not a premimum day - so if we arent restricted to how many Mondays we can have off, we cant be restricted to how many Saturdays we can have off. If we accepted extra pay for w/e, that would make w/e special & we could be prevented from taking vacations, holidays, etc due to having too many w/e.

Good for you Oramar...i wonder if this nurse manager would change her tune if she were offered $50 per hour...you think she would then consider herself worth it? Sounds like she has some real personal self worth issues here.
