Ugh.

I am sitting on call.

I HATE call.

I can't sleep on call.

If the unit gets one more admit they will call me in...

Why oh why??

Did I mention that I HATE call??

Not tonight, but my best/worst call was on a Thanksgiving Day. I literally had 30 minutes left to go before I was "off". Figured there was no way they would call me in at that point, I turned on my oven ready to cook our Thanksgiving meal. Just as I did, the phone went. Normally they wouldn't have called at that time, but they knew I was 5 minutes from the hospital and they had a woman bleeding out. Needed an emergency hysterectomy asap and there was no time to fly her out to another facility, so I turned off the oven and went in. When I finally did get home and eat dinner, there seemed to be a whole lot more that I was thankful for on that day.

I know we all moan about call, but there are times when you really feel like you have done something special when you get called out for a case like that.

With hopes that everyone on call tonight has a quiet, uneventful night...
