Healthcare job options for second career, pre-nursing student!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

At 27, I am preparing to apply for a BSN program - BSN will be my second degree, and nursing my second career. I plan to work part-time over the next year and a half while I take pre-requisite courses before applying to a BSN program.

I have no work experience in the healthcare field, but I would really like to have a job where I can get some relevant experience for admission to nursing school and work as a nurse, but I am not sure what jobs I would be able to get without any previous healthcare experience. Ideally I would love for my job to include patient interaction/care and/or exposure to medical terminology so I can begin learning - but I am completely open to anything! Any suggestions for entry level healthcare jobs that do not require certification (or only relatively quick certification, like a CNA) would be very appreciated!!

I worked as a CNA before nursing school and the experience was invaluable. It gave me a chance to work with patients directly and learn basic patient care, something that often isn't taught well in nursing school. I moved up to CNA2 while in nursing school and worked on a Med-Surg floor which added another level of experience. I would highly recommend this route.
