Goals for Capstone?

Nurses General Nursing

I am really struggling with this and I thought maybe ya'll could help. I start Capstone next Monday and need to develop 3 individual goals for my capstone experience. I am doing my capstone in a small rural hospital about 30 min from the large city I live in.

The experience is different there because they don't have assigned floors/units. The nurses on duty split the patients on the floor, while taking turns with ED admits, scheduled outpatient infusions, and laboring moms. They also have a different documentation system than I have used before.

My purpose for taking this capstone (as opposed to a hospital in the city) was to get a chance to see more different things during the experience instead of just ER, or just med-surg, etc. That being said, I am struggling with coming up with specific goals to achieve.

Thanks for any advice!!

Regardless of where your capstone site is or why you chose that location, this is still your final nursing clinical before you graduate. So... what do you want to learn? What experiences/skills have you not attempted in practice yet? What abilities do you want to make sure you hone before you graduate? What knowledge will make you feel more confident that you'll be successful after graduation? What kind of care are you nervous about providing and what will make you more confident?

Make tangible, quantitative goals such as attempt xx number of IV starts, admit xx number of patients, discharge xx number of patients. That way when you complete your capstone, you can evaluate each of your goals to determine if each were met and if not, why?.
