One of my co-workers works weekends in oncology. One of her pts came in yesterday and gave her a necklace and earings for Christmas. Hewould always bring in candy for the nurses, he refused to take it back. lovely older gentleman, with a wife and son......... What would you do? Insist he take it back or keep it?

Hi. I encounter this quite a bit in home health. It certainly would be offensive to give the gift back. I would imagine it's the context that the patient is giving the gift. You might want to take a look at your hospital policy on gifts and gratuities or check with your supervisor if you're really worried.
