I work mostly temp and agency nursing and I got a great job that I have been working for a few months. Everything had been going great and they said this would be open ended. At the same time I have been seeing a neurologist and decided to get treatment for my ADD. I was taking adderall and my dr doubled my dose last week, which was way too much for me and made me really dopey. I was late to work and made two stupid mistakes, I tried checking the orders but the regular nurse had taken the book with orders out of the office and just kept telling me what to do, I was unsure and I had only taken care of the specific clients i had one other time so I was not familiar with their treatment, I thought the one thing was incorrect, I questioned her several times and am not sure if I misunderstood or she was wrong. I corrected both mistakes but I know it looked very unprofessional on top of being late.
I got a call that I was no longer needed, the next day. My husband says I should go talk to them but not tell them I am on medication because it makes me look like a drug addict. I am afraid it will get back to my agency or another client that I have worked for and want to work for again. I am not sure how to explain what happened otherwise.
Any advice. I really liked working there.

In this case, I would disclose lightly. Need to know only ex. "I had an unexpected reaction to a change in medication that day and I had a really off day".

Learn from this and call in the next time you feel "dopey."
Jassasaurus,
I do like your suggestion of an unexpected reaction. I just need to practice at home saying that and then keeping my mouth shut. The ADD in my feels the need to keep talking.... I am not good at staying quiet...thus the medication in the first place, but I do feel there needs to be some explanation.
