To those of you who work as nurses (PT or FT) and have a second job (PT/FT), what is that other job you work? One thing I love about Nursing is that you can work a shift on the weekends and have another career during the week (say school teacher or an accountant).

So to all those "dual career" nurses, what are your two jobs? Do you like working these two jobs? And if so, do you prefer your nursing job to your other career or vice versa?

It's a different life. I love everything about being on a rig.

I could do a 48 and love everything about it.

But when I get home after a day at work, my Nursing eyes see bills quite differently than my EMS eyes.

One you could say, "Let's go to Olive Garden! Yes, again!" and the other "*sigh*... Let's see.. Chicken Cup O' Noodles, or Beef?"

I used to work as a paramedic. I'd work 48 hour "weekend" shifts. I haven't done it since early 2006, and I'm ok with that. ;) I guess I prefer guns over spineboards, lol.

I've daydreamed about working in a bookstore or being a make up artist, but then I think, "Why would I make minimum wage at a bookstore and deal with costumers when I can make my 40 bucks plus overtime during extra shifts at my hospital (and be able to sedate my patients...hehe)?"

I do some modeling and extra work for TV shows and movies that might be filming in my city when the opportunity arises, but my nursing job takes priority, and I will usually decline anything if I'm already working at my hospital that day. I do get paid for my time on set and have to fill out W-2's and claim it all when I file my taxes, so I guess it IS a job. But it is fun to do, and I meet people I've never imagined I'd ever meet, and it's amusing because now, my agency knows that I'm a nurse, so sometimes they'll ask me if I'm interested being a nurse in whatever is going on if there's hospital scenes. It's kinda funny to be an actual nurse, and "play one on TV". Haha.

But anyway, if I wanted a REAL second job (that's actually important and makes me feel good), I would choose flight nursing. And I understand why so many who have responded already are EMTs as well as nurses.
