Do most RN jobs have contracts that specify a certain number of years minimum?

I notice on this forum some people talking about taking a job with a 2 or 3 year contract. Is this the norm, or the exception? Do most RN jobs not require you to work there a certain amount of time in the contact? Does it vary by part of the country? What do you know about contracts and RN jobs? Thanks =)

Maybe these hospitals should provide the appropriate pay for their nurses and this wouldn't be a problem...

Maybe nursing schools should have higher standards and actually prepare students to practice independently, like in the old days. Then so much money wouldn't have to be spent to ready them for practice.

Nursing programs do a pretty darn good job of preparing students for the constantly evolving and policy driven system that has become a much different beast than the 'old days'. If we trained like nurses used to we would all fail miserably. You may have learned as you went, but we have to start in this system with a completely different set of tools in order to survive getting sued or worse, losing our liscences. Your comment was honestly a bit jaded.
