Dividing Two Floors into Two Separate Units

Nurses General Nursing

Hello!

I work in a hospital with two peds floors, 20 beds each, who take just about anything under the sun that's not a PICU-type kid. We do renal, neuro, pulm, oncology, hematology, etc. The only specific thing is that one floor is the only floor that takes oncology and cardiology kids; the rest of it can go anywhere.

Our hospital is now working at dividing those two floors into two separate units, each with their own manager. This comes with some adjusting..but we're going to try to make it work and be positive.

Has any other peds person ever gone through a unit division by diagnosis? How did that work? And are there any challenges you could enlighten me to in advance?

I'm a floor and charge nurse there now but am going back to school for my peds CNS, so this is all of interest to me. I want to assist change in happening, especially as our hospital will see increased numbers quite soon.

Thanks all!
