Continuous Bladder Irrigation

I was also told that you had to use the "special" 2000cc Normal Saline for irrigation bags for CBI. However, a nurse last night kept hanging regular 1000cc NS IV bags which I thought had different preservatives. Was she doing the patient harm or was I overreacting?

We have 2 or 3L bags that specify "for irrigation only." Are you talking the 1L NS bags used for IV infusion? I don't imagine it would harm the patient, but it seems like it would be pricier for the patient. Not to mention a lot more work for the staff.

We have flat out run out of irrigation bags. I work at a very large hospital and the supervisor does not have access to pharmacy. We have to talk to the pharmacist in charge.....

p.s. If you run irrigation too fast, the patient will have spasms that are really painful....

I had a pt who had 5L bags of 0.9 NaCl haning for bladder irrigation. Is that the same as 0.9NS. Could that cause any problem?
