Challenging the board for Lvn

Hey everyone,

im a Vn student and didn't passed my peds theory class. And now my school is giving me a tons of test(7tests) to take in order for me to reenroll in peds class.I pass all my clinical from term 1 to term 4.my question is, can I challenge the board and do I qualified to do so ? Hoping for a helpful answer and suggestion. thank you so much

That would be a no. To qualify to take NCLEX, you must have COMPLETED a nursing program (RN/LVN). This is verified by the school sending your completions records to the board. If you failed Peds, you have not completed the program. You can't skip one part of a program and expect to become a nurse. Take your tests then retake Peds like is required of you.

I know that there at least used to be a few states that would allow military personnel with specific healthcare training and experience to challenge the NCLEX-PN -- I don't know if that's still true. CA has a pathway for CNAs with some specified number of years of experience to complete a few specific courses and take the NCLEX-PN. However, I can't believe that any state will allow people who were dismissed from an LPN program because of academic performance to then challenge the exam.

Do you have any grounds to appeal your course grade or your dismissal? Have you reviewed your school's grievance policy to see if you have any options? Otherwise, your best bet is likely to be to jump through whatever hoops your school is requiring for you to reenroll. Best wishes!
