On-call pay...standard or not?

I am just curious...

If you are a regular, full-time nurse and if the hospital has a policy, of let's say, being on call 2 or 3 times in a 2-month period, is it normal to pay the employee something on those days, or do you get paid extra if you go in or do you only get paid if you go in?

I know that this is probably a question for the HR department...but I'm just curious if there is a "standard" or not.

i work in a nicu, and our policy is to be on-call twice per month. we get $2/hr while on call, and time and a half if we get called in. around here, it is rare not to be called in. can't remember when the last time i was left on call and stayed at home...

well, it does make things easier when you know you'll not only get called in, but you get time and a half.

not too shabby!

We get $3/hr. They are thinking about cutting that though...
