ARMY nursing for this new male grad? good or bad?

Nurses General Nursing

Hello, I am a new grad (12/2000) UIC and am considering going regular Army nursing. Im am very unfamilliar with this "specialty." Can anyone give me insight or just say Hi? I have yet to take state boards or even receive the letter outlining dates but am leaning heavily toward this at least for 3 or 4 years (max). Oh yes, I am unfortunately rather disenchanted with the private sector, too little camraderie, too much other negtive stuff I guess. I am new to this site and am still feeling my way around, thanx. Brehon (sounds like Crayon-C+B)

I have been a male Navy Nurse for over 20 yrs. Wouldn't trade my experiences for anything, but as with any organization there are negatives. It doesn't matter what service or even if you stay in civilian nursing, being a male, you are a minority in the nursing profession.

Rather than focus on the Nursing side of the military, you really need to look at the military lifestyle before joining. If you don't mind moving every couple of years, chance of ending up in some pretty remote areas, plenty of rules and regulations and of course the chance of being sent to war, then it is a good life. Make sure your family understands all of this because it can be a huge strain on family life.

Oh yea, by the way San Antonio is a great place. Brooke Army Hospital is a stae of the art new facility. Really impressive center. Trauma center for that side of San Antonio.
