Anyone here from Alberta?

Is there anyone here from Alberta? Has anyone else heard about the changes the government wants to make to the nursing profession? It's outrageous. I can't believe that they would try to do this.

I don't know all the details as I haven't really been keeping up with it, but they basically want to move you wherever they want on a short-term or even long term basis. For Example, if I apply for a job and get it, I could show up on the first day and they tell me that I won't really be working there but in a different city altogether! Or, if I show up to work and they are short somewhere within 50kms, they want to have the right to move me that day. What's up with that? I am hired for my hospital and my hospital only! The only thing our union asked for was NO CHANGES. But all around here it's being made to look like the nurses are the bad ones...

Any input? I would love to hear from Albertan nurses...and anyone else. But are all of us planning in striking? The vote of whether or not to strike is September 15.

Amanda, I just wanted to make sure that you knew that we had a forum specifically for Canadian nurses...? You might consider also posting your topic in there- not everyone visits all the forums, and I know that forum is particularly active. :)
