Any nurses out there still wearing a cap?

Hello. I saw a nurse the other day in the parking lot wearing the traditional white nurse cap. I ran over to her and asked why on earth she was wearing that. It turns out she is from the "Old School" era of nurses (1970's) and has never worked a nursing job without her cap ...as she put it "I worked for this cap and nobody but myself will remove it". So, here is the question : Have you ever, or are you currently working with a nurse who wears the cap? ANy insights would be appreciated

I come from a family of nurses. I remember when I was little and this is in the 70's by the way my great-great-aunt wore her nursing uniform dress with her cap. I remember seeing other relatives wearing hats. My other aunt wore hers for graduation but did not have to wear it after she finished but had to wear white scrubs. This was back in the 80's. Recently I saw a nurse wearing a hat with the white dress. She had the same attitude as the OP's nurse.

I couldn't wear one. My hair is way to big and I do not need anything on my head to make it bigger.

I never got one. I've seen a few, and I mean only a few of the older nurses still wear one. Like, one or less at each facility I've worked at. I think they just get in the way--always hitting on IV poles, TV's bracketed to the walls, monitors, etc. Just like the nursing dresses--I don't see how you could actually WORK in one. :twocents:

Yes, I'm from Thailand. I graduated from nursing school in the 90s and we have worn white dress uniform until later year we can start wearing white pants. And Thai nurses still wear the caps too.
