RN from Montreal, Canada

  1. Hi!
I'm a nurse from Montreal ,Canada, and I live in Dallas, Texas. I was wonder what is needed from me in order to be able to work here in Dallas. Do I need to pass an exam or my diploma and references from Canada is sufficient? How and where can I get a license to work as a RN...
Thanks in advance for your help, please feel free to pass this on if your not the right person.

    Thank you,
    Gina

    Gina,
Contact the board of nurse examiners here in Texas. They have a web site as well as email, fax, etc. all available. In the past, you had to have an employer sponsor you in Texas, don't know if that is true any longer or not, but with the shortage, it should not be hard to find one! Good luck, and hopefully we can make Texas a better place to practice soon!
I am located in Paris, about 90 miles NE of you, if you need anything, let me know. I have lots of contacts in Dallas.

You need a health certificate which is a research or all licences you have had and all schools you have attended not to mention writing the american RN-Clex or CGFNS and TOEFEL (english test) and a texas liscence this can take up to a year.
Next You need to first get a job once you get one, you need to get a very detailed and specific employment letter and bring it to a port of entry(customs). This is to get a TN Visa. You need to renew this yearly (each year you only need an employment letter. Once there, a hospital can sponser you for a green card. Good luck. Best bet contact the INS they are great.
Another way in is to contact a hospital and ask if they sponser foreign nurses the final way is to attend nursing fairs there is usually an american hospital hiring canadian RNs (that is what I did )
