I am about to start my last year of nursing school and my GI doc wants me to get a Nissen Fundoplication (laproscopically) for my 15-year history of GERD that is no longer med-responsive and a small hiatal hernia. I am wondering about the post-op healing pathway, as I need to be ready to start clinicals the second week of January. My doc wants me to have the surgery by the end of the year and I am meeting with the surgeon on the 15th (of Dec).
FYI: I am a 30yo female. I also have gastroparesis and read that the fundoplasty also assists with gastric mobility in 50% of the cases.
Any thoughts/input/etc...? My best friend had the procedure a few years ago and raves about it. I have been trying to do plenty of research before-hand, but wanted to get a(n unbiased) nurses perspective, since those are the people I trust most.
