Online forensic nursing program

It's an excellent program. The woman who wrote the forensic nursing curriculum was an RN for a long time and was a forensic pathologist.

i got interested with forensic when i first saw CSI and CSI Miami... i know that what they portray in the series is not the complete actual procedure of investigation... but it still is amazing!! totally cool!!

I've been in the Kaplan program for 9 months now and it's the best career decision I've made so far. I'm excited about finishing however I am enjoying it so much I wish there were more.
It's self-study and you are expected to complete the program in 12 months, which is reasonable. It's all-encompassing of areas of forensic nursing and gives good overall coverage of the role of the forensic nurse. I've been a SANE for 3 1/2 years and I've used its principles with my exams and feel my documentation just gets better, the further I get.
The web field trips are great and there's a message board to post and the instructor responds very TIMELY any questions or comments.
My hospital offers tuition reimbursement and this course qualifies but check with your facility before you assume it will pay for it.
I really want to be a death investigator and this course has brought me much closer to my goal. Whatever your aspirations are in forensic nursing you'll find this course helpful and inspiring.

Pennie - Have you started looking into jobs where your education will be utilized? Such as coroners offices, police, CSI, etc.? I am curious about that aspect. Thanks Trish

I haven't gotten so far as to start job hunting but I'm going to be doing some ride-alongs with a local law enforcement agency. I hope to also do externships with the medical examiner, crime lab and prosecuting attorney's office. i'm hoping this will open some doors as well as get some support when I start looking for a job. The midwest is slower than the coasts with opening positions for forensic RN's so I think I'll be doin' some hoofin' before I get any answers. Pennie

Good luck. You need to attend class. View crime scenes. My certificate is approved by the Florida Bar, the Florida BON and a slew of different agencies, Buyer Beware.

Jesus, my entire course, the initial one which designated me a Forensic Nurse Specialist was 500 dollars, are they insane? More than 3 Grand and nothing in person?


Contact your medical examiner's office. Miami Dade medical examiner's gives it once a year.

where are some forensic nursing schools?

Yes I have researched Kaplin, still unsure of the probably of it versus a masters with the certificate. If any one can be more specifia ,besides the money and time I would like to know. Kaplin replied quickly to my application as well as Vanderbuilt. I am still in the exploring mode. any helpful hints or insights?
