I just finished the certified foot and nail care course at Emory University, and felt I needed to share my awesome experience.

The class is a two day class. Day one focuses on the educational aspect (didactic), and day two is all clinical experience (at an independant living facility). Our instructor was *********, WOCNEC program director. She was an exceptional instructor!!!!! The material provided was definitely intense, detailed, and interesting. I have no qualms I will pass the certification test. Emory generally only accepts 8 students for this class. Ours had 5, only because there was so much interest in their May class, they ended up offering a second May class (which was the one I attended). Sadly, their class is only offered a few times a year. If you contact the school about attending the class, and they tell you it's full, make sure you speak with ****** , because sometimes if there are enough people on the waiting list, they will just add another class.

For those of you trying to start your own business, Emory also spends time discussing important elements related to starting a foot and nail care business. Now, there's not a whole lot of time spent, but I did learn things I had not learned previously. I must say, our instructor has been teaching this class for quite some time, so I was able to take away a lot of "tips and tricks" which are only learned through years of experience.

So, if anybody has any questions regarding the course, feel free to reach out to me!! And, as previously stated, if you are able to take the class.....TAKE IT!!! You will not be disappointed. I not only learned an invaluable wealth of information, I made several friendships with the others in my class.

I also trained with ******* several weeks ago, in Seattle, Washington. She is a podiatrist, who is advocating for RN's to practice foot and nail care independently. She is also an awesome resource, and offers classes to nurses who are interested in learning the craft, or starting their own foot and nail care business. She focuses more on the clinical aspect, but also offers a DVD for those wishing to become eligible to take the WOCN certification exam for foot and nail care.

I must say, after receiving training from both Emory University and Dr ********, I feel I can conquer the foot and nail care industry. I plan on sitting for the exam in the next few weeks, then my plan is to open a business. I'm so excited to be a part of this new, and important, aspect of nursing.
