U.S.A. Florida

MY overall gpa is 3.7 but my prereq gpa is 3.0..( got a c in micro and dep) everything else a's and 2bs. I got a 88 on my teas. I graduate with an AA in the Summer. Are these stats good enough to get in? I would love to heard stories of nursing students who got into these schools. What were yours Stats, how is the program. My top choice is UCF or FSU. Thanks for the reponses in Advance :)

I apologize in advance... I'm not a current nursing student but am trying to get into nursing schools in Florida. I've been doing tons of research and can say for a fact that they even turn down people with 4.0 gpas bc there just aren't enough seats. The amount of students that apply vs avail seats is enough to make a Applicant Cry. I'm not trying to be a jerk by saying this, but those C's are going to hurt you based on the programs you're trying to get into. What else do you have going for you besides the 3.7 and great teas score? Are you a CNA? Do you have any healthcare Exp? Those things could make you more desirable to the board. Do you have any safety schools? You never know what could happen though. I wish you all the best.

I agree. It's so competitive. My suggestion would be to retake the classes you got Cs in. I know it sucks, but I have a 3.5 undergrad gpa, a 3.7 masters gpa, a 3.7 pre req gpa and an 83 on the TEAS. I got denied from UF UCF UNF FAU over the summer so I reapplied for fall. Just remember there are limited seats and tons of applicants. Make yourself stand out!! Best of luck!!

Thank you guys for your responses.

I have my BS in Business Management from USF, but my gpa was about 2.9. I asked USF about their 2nd degree program when I wanted to go back to school for nursing - they were honest with to say to start at a community college first so I'm at PHCC, just started this summer. Then my plan is to transfer to USF after I pass the RN exam. But when I apply for the program, do you know if they will look at my gpa from Business Management or just the prerequisite classes?

i am in usf's nursing program. i first applied back in the summer of 2011 and did not get in. i had a 3.8 overall gpa. i had only 1 b in my pre reqs other than that a's. i reapplied for the fall and was accepted. it is a very difficult program to get into. actually all nursing programs are hard to get into. your healthcare and volunteer experience is important. i agree with the others retake the classes you have c's in. @stephalina6 i would suggest asking rn sam she was in the second degree program at usf.

They won't let me retake them because a *C is considered passing. ;(

So.... A person who gets a D can take the the class again, get an A and potentially have a better shot at getting nursing school than you... Thats BS.

I KNOW!!!!!! That's exactly how I felt!!!!! --__-- right now I'm looking at schools that admit in the spring. Hopefully I get accepted

Hello All,

I know its way late after your posts.. but LaurieJ you can go to another community college and take the courses you got C's in over again.. then send the transcripts to the college of nursing of your choice. This is route Im trying to take.. hope this helps you
