Sex offenders in FL!!??!!??

I know this is a little off the subject of nursing, but I know that a lot of us here are mothers and fathers as well...I am beside myself at the moment.

I live in the Tampa area and we just had ANOTHER child abducted; this time at gunpoint. I have 2 little girls and I am so overwhelmed with all of the sex offenders that are registered in Florida. I am angry and scared for our children. I feel like the law does not do enough to protect our greatest treasures. They are defenseless and we have got to stop this nonsense.

From this area alone, we have had at least 4 children abducted and KILLED in the past 2 years. And those are just the cases that are widely televised. Doing a predator search in my area alone (and I live in a very affluent neighborhood - homes from 600K ti 2 Mill) We have within walking distance 6 registered offenders of which 3 are child predators.

I have worked as a PCT at a childrens hospital here and saw a lot of kids come in who had obviously been abused repeatedly. I just want to scream! It feels like our priorities in this community and all across the country are just screwed up. We need to find a solution to protect our children!

Sorry for the rant, but I am very upset right now :)

I have just moved here (Wesley Chapel) from charlotte, nc and had also lived in california for many years, and this freaks me out too. I know it happens everywhere, but the Tampa area seems to be especially problematic. How do you do a predator search for your area? That sounds like something I would like to do. I am a mother of two also. Thank you for biringing this up.

I'm from the Tampa Bay area and remember running a search on my childhood neighborhood and the whole screen lit up! The definition of a registered sex offender is broad though - remember they run the gamut from statutory rape on up to the molestors.

I understand that each case is different, but I want to be informed!
