Hi ELS4048,

Thank you for that insightful information..... Would it be possible to exchange email address for a private conversation, I have some more questions...

Thanks in Advance

ELS4048,

What was the interview like?

34914, yes you can send me your email.

littlemissgator at the time of my interview they were desperate for people, they just asked the reason you want to be a nurse.

ELA4048,

I do not have permission to send any private messages, so I taking a leap of faith and posting my email address: [email protected]

Hope to hear from you soon.

Ok, so I know this question is most likely premature at this stage, but is anyone who is planning on starting in July looking for a roommate? :)

i can totally attest to the difficulty of managing the program because of the logistics. we have 3 different types of clinicals this term, and we are ALL over the place!

we do OB/peds clinicals on night shifts, and then community/psych are days... and often they are back-to-back. the commuting time is ridiculous, as the sites we use span hundreds of square miles.

all of the clinicals are pass/fail, yet they require an excessive amount of paperwork. after a community clinical, paperwork is due within 48 hours and can often take 2-3 hours to complete, if you're doing it quickly. i had a community clinical on a thursday, then worked night shift friday night for OB, and was somehow expected to get the paperwork done.

thanks for info, heading off to iuon next month

Hello Sammie,

What is iuon?

Iuon is nursing school in St. Kitts -International University of Nursing- I am spending 2 term there and finishing at Univ of Co

Rad sugar,

U are currently enrolled in this program? If you are, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks

I have been reading the posts from the beginning and am trying to decide if the program will be too much work and money. Just took my prerequisites of A & P 1 & 2 accelerated and micro, gen chem all last semester. I am 57 and going for a third career Science Teacher, Realtor, and maybe Nursing now. Any comments from students in the program and finishing was it worth it?

i'm in the 3rd quarter of the program.

pros:

-getting your RN done in a year.

-going to clinicals and being told that we are more knowledgeable and better prepared than other area students

-very difficult coursework and content = high level of academics

cons:

-grueling schedule (5 to 6 days a week, 48 weeks a year, some days are 9+ hours of lecture; 12 hour night shift clinicals and then 8:30 am classes a couple days later)

-HOURS of commuting to scattered clinical sites

-going to clinical sites that don't want students, have no idea you're coming and are rude to you

-"because i said so" policy used for ALL administrative decision making

-accelerated program means class cannot cover everything = self-teaching required

-high burnout rates among students

-poor faculty - student relationships (hostile educational environment)

-"acting dean" is official decision maker and maybe comes to campus once a week (ie: the person making all the calls has NO idea whats going on)

-the "acting dean" schedules major events around her vacation schedule (our summer graduation date is set for a wednesday night, 2 weeks after classes are done; 22 members out of a 28 member class CANNOT attend and school admin is NOT changing the date).

-exit hesi exam is required to graduate - a passing score of 900 MUST be achieved to graduate
