Need help deciding which HCC campus to apply to!

U.S.A. Florida

Hi!

I have come to this site LOTS within the past year but have finally found the need to post. I haven't found a post like this one (maybe I just overlooked it)...but it's getting too close for comfort, and I need to decide. I will be applying to HCC's nursing program after this Spring semester, for the June 1st deadline. I can't decide whether to apply to the Dale Mabry NIGHT/Weekend program, or the Plant City DAY program. I have heard bad things about the instructors at both campuses.

For those of you who are currently in the program, or have just recently graduated...please give me your thoughts and experiences with the campus/instructors. I am the type of person who needs to have a game plan, and it's driving me crazy that I can't decide which campus I want.

I am tempted to go down to both campuses and talk to the nursing students there to see what they have to say. lol

Thanks for any advice!

Well, I am a Dale Mabry-day student.

First of all, it does not matter what you write in your application, they might place you in any campus if you are accepted. It might not be your 1st choice at all. I know many students had to drive to PC from St Pete, some of them were able to switch to DM after 1st semester, some did not.

Second, they toss instructors from DM to PC very often. I am not sure if they toss day-evening instructors, I guess, they do.

From my own experience, I chose DM as a 1st choice and was lucky to get into their program. I chose this campus because it is closer to my place and driving on I-4 in rush hour is not fun. Moreover, if you are in PC, you might have clinicals in that are as well. Clinicals start at 6-30 am. I am from New Tampa, and if I have clinicals in TGH or St Jos. I have to get up at 4-45 (no morning shower:) to be there in time. It is hard to go to bed early as my body got used to go to bed at midnight. Same with other students, we do not have good night sleep night before clinicals. And if I had to go to PC area, it means I have to get up even earlier.

Anyway, good luck to you!

This scares me. I wonder what the feedback is from someone doing the PC nights program since that's my option. Just dropped off my app yesterday for Fall Semester '10.

Hello,

I am currently in the Dale Mabry day program. I know that instructors do switch from day/night and also campuses. We have an instructor from Plant City nights, for our day section for this semester at Dale Mabry. I would apply where you want to be and hope that you get placed there. I wanted Dale Mabry days and I got Dale Mabry days. I do know that some people do switch at orientation and also after the first semester. I think we lost about 10 people over the course of our first semester, so some spaces opened up. I think the advantage of going to Dale Mabry is that more of the clinical sites are closer to this campus than Plant City. Anyways, whatever you decide, good luck!! :) My first semester instructor was tough, but really great. You will do well if you really want to, no matter who the instructor is. :nurse:
