MDC Nursing program Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi everyone,

I am done with all my prerequisites and looking forward to applying to MDC Rn program this fall. I'll be taking the Teas Test soon and I am just soo nervous. Has anyone taken it yet? share your experience please :confused:.

Good luck to you all

not yet. I am planning to take it next month. I heard the 5 teas practice test is very helpful for the science TEAS?

My science gpa is around 2.9 (got a c in anatomy) and overall college gpa is 3.4.

When are you taking the test? and no, the TEAS practice did not help me much with the science portion. I will be retaking the test this month and I am going to study for the science with the chemistry and A&P books I used when I took those classes. BUT the study guide really helps with the other sections of the test.

Good Luck.

Hello everyone, hope you all make into the program you guys apply too. I wish you all well in longggggg process!!!!!!! I have a question about the program. I would like to know if you guys can recommend me to some program or do I have a chance to get into the RN program at MDC. My GPA is 3.28 and with a TEAS score of 75%, and I'am also a male(hopefully that gives a a little push with a somewhat low gpa if anyone considers it low). I was wondering if you guys can give me some input into any programs that can possibly accept me!!!!! I would love some feedback. Thanks for you time!!! I greatly appreciate it.

Hi!! Thank you for your good wishes :) well about your GPA and teas score, IMO I would take the test again and try to get a higher score. That is what I am gonna do. Hopefully I get a better score and then I'll take a chance and Apply to see what happens!!! But I'll Also be applying to other program as well. Mdc has manny options maybe you can find Something of your interest, If not stick to RN and do all you can to increase your chances of getting in! Wish you the best of luck ;)

Hey dolphins,

Kro90 is right. I would take the TEAS again (if you're able to) to try and bring it up and be more competitive. If you can't take it again, then apply with what you have cause you never know. It all depends on the applicants who apply every semester. Is the 3.28 your overall GPA or just your science GPA?

Thank you for responding!!! Yes I do plan on taking the TEAS again!!! Well 3.28 is my overall GPA. I am also looking to LPN programs. Do you have any suggestions? I am applying to LPN programs as a backup, but honestly I would love to enter a RN program instead. I will be applying to Miami Lakes Tech and Lindsey Hopkins LPN programs. I will also be applying to NOVA BSN program because it is a bachelors program. My ultimate goal is to have a BSN not a ASN, so that is why I will be giving NOVA a chance.

You can always apply for the LPN program at Miami Dade and then do the bridge from LPN to RN. But the best thing you can do is apply to as many places as you can. The more, the better. Let us know how you do on the upcoming TEAS.

You are right!! The more places we Apply to, the more chances we have! I am taking the Teas next week I hope I do better this time :) Did you turn in your app? I spoke to an advisor this week and he told me about 600 people had already applied !! :/ so nervous!

I would love to apply to Miami Dade's lpn program but they do not offer the required courses over the summer so I will not meet the criteria by the application dead line :bluecry1:.... That is why I will be applying to miami lakes tech lpn program... I wish everyone lots of luck on the acceptance process, I will be applying for the spring programs!!!! Have anyone of guys heard about any lpn programs??? That would help me out tremendiously :confused:..

wow 600 that is a lot !!! have you asked what will they be weighing more, the teas or gpa??? MDC weights are as follows:

TEAS (60%)

GPA (40%)

I believe they use a "competitive score" in determining acceptances. In your case:

Teas = 75% x .60 = 45

GPA = 3.28 = 32.8

45 + 32.8 = 77.8

That's what I've read from previous threads.

I do not know much about any lpn programs cause I've never looked into it. I guess for me it's pretty much RN or nothing lol. But wow, 600 applicants is a lot and I'm sure there'll be quite a few more once the deadline approaches.

Well I finally got around to applying for all 3 nursing tracks today. The advisor (don't remember his name) who was helping me was answering my questions about the program. I'm not sure how accurate they were but he seemed like he knew what he was talking about. I asked him from what he's seen, what has been the average TEAS scores from the applicants and he said mostly in the 60's and 70's, a few in the 80's and maybe one or two in the 90's. Granted this was just one advisor but he said he noticed a lower trend in scores this semester from last semester. So this is good news for us :yeah:

Also, just in case somebody wasn't sure, there's 50 seats for Accelerated, 150 seats for full time generic, and 50 seats for part time generic, with most of the applicants seeking the full time generic. As a previos poster said, there has been so far about 600 applicants and will be more as the deadline approaches.

The advisor said that the way MDC determines accepting students is by their competitive score. My competitive score is an 87.7 and he said that anything in the high 70's and above has a good chance of getting in. BUT AGAIN, TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THIS WAS JUST HIS OBSERVATIONS.

Hey mjl88 Thanks for sharing this info with us. You are right those TEAS acores are Really low, but that is good in some way, it give us a better chance to Many of us. I was told the same about the number of applicants so far, so I guess all that informaciĆ³n is acurate. I'll be applying next week after my TEAS 2nd attempt and Will ask all this info to a diff advisor and let you guys know!!!

I am pretty sure you'll get in your scores are really good! ;)
