I just took the HESI this morning! I know your not applying this semester but you'll still need to take it so I'll share my experience. I guess others can use it too.
For starters, I found it fairly easy. I got a 92% overall
. The Evolve book (I put the link in an earlier post) is very good for preparation! I barely even spent much time studying. I read through the whole book, answered the questions and that was it. BUT that might not work for everyone!
Reading comp- got 86% - this portion is just like the Evolve book. If your from FL and you passed the FCAT you can pass this portion lol. It asks basic reading comprehension questions... Main idea, meaning of this word used in the passage, what conclusion can you draw, which statement is a fact, etc.
- got 92% - honestly I just used my common sense. This part was really easy for me, certain things just didnt sound right so I knew it was wrong. If your grammar is not on point don't worry, once again the Evolve book has pretty much everything you need to know.
Vocabulary- got 86% - ehh there were many words from the Evolve book, although several words took me by surprise. The Evolve book is pretty good preparation, but you may want to pick up a vocab book and review. If you have a good vocabulary, then I wouldn't stress it. I thought I wasn't going to pass this section but I ended up getting an 86%.
Anatomy and Physiology- got 96% - I love A&P and I'm fresh out of the course and labs. So that was a big help. The book isn't good enough preparation. Really I don't see how someone would be able to pass this section without taking the course. I would still use the book as initial review, but maybe something like A&P cliff notes or another review book would be needed. Once again, all I did was look over the Evolve book, but I have a very good background in Anatomy so that's why I did so well. It's such a broad subject. So make sure you brush up on your A&P!!
Math- got 100% - okay again, I'm good at math so it was easy for me (I'm a math/science person) shows through my scores lol. Nonetheless this was an easy section. It is BASIC math. Really. Basic. Lol. +/- and multip.& division of decimal numbers, fractions, conversions, percentages, ratios etc. the Evolve book is GREAT preparation! You don't need anything else.
So buy the EVOLVE study guide, study and don't stress it! It's not a bad exam. I promise I barely even studied!
