You're better off seeing an adviser at Keiser to see how long it will take. They do not always accept credits from other schools so you may have to repeat some of your pre-reqs. And that will have an impact on the length of time it takes to finish. When I looked into the school last summer, it was approx 40k for everything. If you can transfer credits, it would be less, but again, an adviser would have that info.

Specializes in Medical/Surgical.

OK this is to JaxMom4. Did you ever get a job in Jacksonville? Did you finish up at Keiser? I have heard similar things as you about Keiser. I have also been raising my children and unfortunately let my license lapse, have not worked as an RN for 12 years and FL, as far as I can tell does not have any refresher courses, looks as though I may have to start from "scratch", and now there are new/additional prerequisites that were not required when I took the course before. I am 48, a couple of years older than you. I've tried to contact the Bd of Nursing a few times, it almost takes an act of Congress. They have what they call a refresher course here in town at FSCJ, when in reality it's a remediation course for those who have taken and failed the NCLEX many times. Needless to say, I dropped that course. I passed mine the first time w/flying colors, and thought it was easy. I merely need a true refresher course with clinicals, designed for someone who has been out of the workplace. Please let me know if you have any information for me. Thank you.

Is there anyone that is currently attending Keiser for the ADN program? I'm confused about their accreditation. In the NLNAC website only a few campuses of Keiser show as accredited, not including Orlando (which is where I have applied). Even though I was told by the faculty that they were accredited and their website states that Orlando is, the NLNAC website does not list Keiser Orlando as one of them. Could it be possible that Orlando's program is part of one of the main campuses like Ft. Lauderdale ? I'm waiting for Keiser's councilor to return my call to verify, but I just wanted to check to see if any one of you knew the answer. Also, if it is not nationally accredited, but I obtained my BSN through Keiser, could I then practice in another state ? And would I have to take a state board test for that?

Hi everyone, I have an interview with the director of the nursing program at Keiser (Miami Campus) tomorrow. I wanted to know if any of you remember what questions you had to answer or how it went, any tips will be greatly appreciated. Also if any of you are attending keiser...how is it going so far???

Thanks!

@Lostnursetobe

how was the interview? any tips? im doing mine next week :) Miami campus as well

Hey the interview went well, the counselor I had, later on showed me the points I received and I got the maximum for the face to face interview. It was about 20 minutes long. You have to fill out a paper explaining why you want to be a nurse, your future goals, and what you think a nurse does on a day to day basis. So you will be asked those questions as well, along with maybe what would you do if a patient threw up on you, if a patients family member yelled at you, and if a doctor yelled at you. I have no experience in the field but they are common sense, if you have ever had a job you can easily relate your experiences to the scenarios that she sets. Also what caught me off guard was that I was asked on Obama's healthcare plan, if I knew about it and what did I think about it. I did know a couple of things on it, I havent really been paying attention the news lately so from what i knew I B***sed th rest and that part went well (thank GOD!). What else....oh also she will ask you what you think the biggest problem in healthcare is right now for nurses...I said that the shortage in nurses and how R.Ns have to multitask in order for hospitals not to hire so many LPNs and CNAs...the whole time she was nodding her head and agreeing with me so I guess I did pretty well. Thats pretty much it, Im giving you all this info because I decided not to go on in with Keiser...GOOD LUCK! :)

@Lostnursetobe - Hi! I am new to this site. Will you share why you decided not to go with Keiser?

Hello sure, I was missing one pre req for the nursing program I got into (starting May '13) and my counselor said that I would not be able to take it at MDC because I didnt let her know by the time of the interview that I had enrolled in the class. Now what I was missing was American Lit. I had everything else, and she gave me an attitude when I told her I wanted to take it at Dade because its way cheaper....336 at Dade....almost 2,000 at Keiser. When I told her If I could speak to the director of the nursing program she said she wasnt there that day and that she would call me back...later that day she emailed me saying that I cannot take it at Dade and if I did I would not be able to go in the program. So pretty much you either take that pre req at keiser or you can kiss your spot goodbye. So I called her and let her know alright no problem let me go in and speak with financial aid and see what I could do....I was about to take out a loan for a stupid pre req that I would have to pay back by the time I got in the program, and then thinking of all the loans I would be in debt with by the time I graduated from their program...I went online and read horrible reviews on the financial side...look Im young, and I originally did not want to do nursing, so switching from it was always an option, and just going to keiser did not feel right. It felt like I was just going into a bank not an educational institution. So I will be re enrolling at FIU for the spring semester with another major :) hope this answered your question!

QUESTION FOR KEISER ORLANDO GRADUATES:

Where did you do your clinicals? Were you able to get a good job after graduating? If so, where? And, if you don't mind, what were the average starting salary offers you got?

Thanks so so much, in advance, for the help.

I walked into Keiser upon finishing my pre-reqs at Brevard Community College to see what it was all about. Honestly, I felt as if I was sitting through a sales pitch. A $35,000 ASSOCIATES degree?! You've got to be kidding me. And look at the scores, they tell it all. Keiser requires very low TEAS grades and their pass rate of the NCLEX cannot even compare to any of the major universities. UCF, UF, FSU, USF, and any other nursing program is HIGHLY competitive to get into, they are the best of the best. Your degree is half the price AND you end with a BACHELOR'S degree!! Hospitals will hire BSN graduates over ASN graduates any day. My mom attended Keiser for their medical assisting program and since that is a technical degree, that's fine. But when it comes to nursing programs, Keiser cannot compare to any of the universities, which happen to be well established. The numbers tell all.

[COLOR=#535353]Straight from Keiser's website it says: An Associate of Science degree is considered a terminal degree and is not transferable.

This means that if you wanted to get a bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Nursing, that it would HAVE to be from Keiser. Their program credits will not transfer to public universities.
