Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Hey everyone I am new here...so happy you all have a feed about this. Congrats to everyone that got accepted! I also got accepted to south shore campus/afternoons, wasnt my first choice but happy to get accepted. Wondering has anyone else got assigned to south shore afternoons?

I feel the same way right now, hopefully we all get acclimated to the program quickly, Micro. and A&P is one thing but now were going into the unknown....:nurse:

okay, I've been working toward the AA for Nursing for a quite awhile, but never so sure if I want to set on this career path.

So, can people tell me some of your personal experiences while working as a nurse? Things like how flexible are you hours? Are you happy with the working environments?

The people on this thread are just starting their path for nursing and haven't completed the program yet. We are just starting in January. :)

I have been reading all these posts for months now. I didnt get in at first, but was offered an alternate seat. My acceptance letter finally came in yesterday and I got my first choice which was DM NW. I am so excited, but really scared at the same time because I wasnt expecting to get in. I look forward to meeting everyone this upcoming week.

Congratulations!! Very exciting stuff! I think we are all nervous about what the future holds, but there are a few of us on here in the DM NW program, so I think if we all stick together, and work really hard, we'll be graduating as awesome nurses in no time!! Congrats again!

I've been working in a medical office for a few years now. I have to say that it takes a particular personality to enjoy nursing. There are huge benefits, and huge drawbacks. Your experience will also be incredibly dependent upon what type of nurse you choose to be. A hospital nurse will have a completely different story than a medical office nurse. An ER nurse will have a different experience than an ICU nurse, oncology nurse, pediatric nurse or psych nurse. There are a number of books about nursing that could give you an inside look- Echo Heron's first non-fiction book was great- though I really recommend skipping the second one she wrote because it is essentially about her midlife crisis and not a fair depiction of our future profession. Just read, read, read. If you're still interested after looking at some non-fiction about it, then it might be for you.

Does anyone know what the dress code is for thur and Fri?? Just wonder what everyone else is wearing?

I GOT IN!!!! I got Plant City afternoons. I would prefer mornings, so hopefully I'll be able to switch with someone. But I am just happy that I'm in!! Congrats to all of you for getting the campus and times that you were hoping for!

I got in the plant city afternoon class 2, I'm excited. Do you live in the plant city area??

Oh my only two more days.........

Sitting together sounds like a good idea, I am planning on getting there early to avoid all the traffic. It will be fun to finally put a face to the names on here.

I plan on getting there early too, probably around 7:30.

Anyone else want to sit with us?

I'll sit with you ladies. I'm coming from Land O Lakes and have to drop my son off at VPK on the way. Hopefully I can get there early too and beat the traffic.

I'd love to sit as a group! Where do you want to meet?
