I am currently thinking of applying to Galen in St Pete's LPN-RN program. I was curious if anyone out there attended or is attending right now. I know it is expensive, but I already have almost all of my gen ed's so the cost is nearly cut in half. I am also looking at SPC, but I probably couldn't start there until Jan 2011 and would not be finished until May 2012. If I started Galen in August, I would be done Nov 2011. That's 6 extra months where I could potentially be working as an RN. Plus, since I have the pre reqs completed, I would only have to attend classes on the days when the actual nursing courses and clinical days are, which is another good thing. Also, I am planning on going for my MSN after RN school. I wan't to bypass BSN if I can (already have a BA) I know UT in Tampa has such a program and so does USF, but I think UT is the only school that would accept Galen's credits. Am I correct?

If you have a bunch of pre-req's, you should go to spc. I don't know for sure, but I heard a lot of classes dont transfer to galen easily. I am attending class in November, but I would be going elsewhere if I had pre-reqs---just because its cheaper.

BUT galen is a fabulous school and their standards dont even compare to local schools... at least in my opinion. youll get top notch edu.

Thanks! I actually applied to both schools (SPC for Jan start and Galen for August) I am currently attending Galen. ( I still haven't heard back from my SPC ap) Because of all my pre reqs I only go to school for one full day and 2 hours on another day. I like it so far, they are pretty strict and structured but I am thankful for that. The cost was also almost halved because of transfer credits, otherwise I wouldn't have chosen Galen. I am not too concerned about furthering my education, as I will have options if I choose to go that route. Good Luck, when do you start?

Wow! thats so awesome! good for you! im happy to hear your credits transferred good!

I am thinking about starting galen in november. i was accepted, but im concerned about the new grading scale. i talked to one student who told me more than half of the students dropped WITHOUT the scale... and that makes it even harder.

any thoughts?

I don't really have any advice as far a the grading scale goes. I'm just going to study hard and get through the program. I figure if I put in the time and effort, there is no reason I shouldn't pass. To me failure is not an option. I didn't pay all this money and make this sacrifice not to come out as an RN. I think too many times in school (not just Galen) people get in over their head. They have to work too much, have other family commitments, blow off studying etc and end up failing. I've been in school long enough to learn what it takes to pass and what I need to cut down on (vactions, overworking, time with friends) to graduate. I wish you good luck.

I was taking classes at SPC but they only take 140 people per class and then they have a second class from a hopital that only takes around 40. I was waiting but now after going and talking with someone at Galen I will be starting there November 8th., I can not wait. Yes it is more expensive but I feel you will get a better education. They all seem so willing to help you. I am going for the LPN program then bridge to RN. Good luck to all. Study hard and you will be fine.

Hi,

I just got accepted to Galen for their LPN to RN bridge program. I feel very excited and satisfied with my decision. Galen seems like a great school and you will graduate having real skills. I have heard nothing but great things about the nurse the graduate from Galen. Though the cost is high and the grading scale is a bit difficult then most programs, I'm sure it is only to help you become a better nurse. Reading the post has encouraged and motivated me even further. How are you guys doing in the program now? I start my classes next week! So excited!!! ;)
