Guys check your email. Notification has been sent out to those who applied for BCC Jan program. I know a few folks who have received their emails this morning. Good luck.

If you got in or not, can you post your GPA please?

Specializes in ED.

But I don't live in Broward nor do I have OSHA credits...both worth extra point credits. So we'll see what happens. :)

How do you get the OSHA points anyway? I know there is an OSHA core class- do you take that and get the credits by taking that?

I'm not sure about the OSHA credits...I heard it was something that you could take over the summer. Maybe someone else could clarify.

Yes I just realized that! I think that is new. I don't remeber there being a May class before. It was only LPN-RN. I'm going to submit another app for that period.

There was always a may class. Two programs begin annually...first month of the year and the middle of the year. I think more info is online at the broward site.

Just checked nothing yet!!! Oh boy now I'm freaking out. I don't think I've ever logged in to my email account to fast! My fingers are about to fall off!:typing

I bet they started with the people who have the most points and are narrowing down the list. Anyone else checked their email??

What was your program gpa VonneG?

Hi Olive,

Program GPA was 3.0. I also got points for being a HOSA student (not OSHA that is something else that you do not get points for) and 1 point for being a Broward resident.

I thought I would have got points for my gen ed classes but I guess not. The thing that is so upsetting is I spoke with two different people at BC one in admissions and the advisor who ASSURED me that I would have "no problems getting in." One went so far as to tell me to call her if I did not get in. I'm contemplating whether I should really taker her up on that, but I'm sure she'll pretend not to have ever said that and of course won't remmber speaking to me. :down:Oh well.

Mind you the program GPA is not what is looked at. It should be your GPA from the prerequisite courses.

Sorry...I meant, HOSA.

I think you should call her and possibly ask her to review your admission info. I know a lot of people who were told the same thing: "No problem getting in." But someone did confirm to me that this time around was so competitive that if you didn't have a 3.5 program gpa, you weren't considered.

It's a bummer but keep your head held high. Check Palm Beach as I heard their admission doesn't close until December 1st. But I haven't checked it out for myself.

These people probably didn't know that the program was going to be so competetive. When I applied, we were told by advisors that if we had a 3.0 pre req gpa or higher, we would definately get in. Maybe, they're advising you all with old information.

hello everyone,

i need some opinions. i was attending keiser university for the rn program, i left due to high tuition and to peruse broward college's rn program. i did my extra pre reqs for broward and applied. i was told it has a high acceptance rate so i figured with my 3.3 i would be in. i got an email today explaining i was being considered as an alternate! i'm worried and dying to know if there is any hope. i had a secure spot at keiser , would have been well into my program but switched. this is what i received:

broward college's (bc) health science admission office reviewed your records and you have been provisionally selected as an alternate for admission to the january 2009 rn program that will begin january 6, 2009. in the event that a student defers or does not respond you will be the next candidate to be offered the seat.

your pre-admission session is scheduled for friday, november 21, 2008 at 1:00pm. the session will be held at the central campus, fau/la building, room 120. please respond to this email (click on reply) by monday, november 10, 2008 to confirm that you will be attending the pre-admissions session.

does anyone think i have any hope in making it into january 09?

thanks for your inputs!no.gif

I think you have a good chance. I know a few people that have decided to go elsewhere. Besides, what else can you do but hope someone declines their admission?

Yeah I know all I can do is hope. Thanks for the reply :)

There's hope. I know people who are attending who were alternates. If you can find out what number you are, you'll have a better idea of your position. A lot of students were denied, who probably would have been accepted last year. :(

I think this is another thing we can credit to our bad economy. :angryfire

I've heard stories of guys who were working on auto assembly lines who are now in nursing school, attempting to secure a more stable career.

I wish you luck!
