Valencia verses Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences Hello everyone,

I am a current Valencia student in my second semester of general education classes. I know Valencia's nursing program had a higher first time pass rate last year, and its a great program. But I would like others options on which has the better program. I would like anyone's input on this subject. Especially the veteran nurses who have worked with new nurse grads.

Thanks,

Cara

Hi Cara!

I'm at Valencia too, in *my* second semester of prereq's - currently slugging it out in Microbiology and Nutrition. When I took Dev Psych last term, there were about 3 or 4 students from FHCHS in the class. They took psych at Valencia because Florida Hospital's conflicted with their other classes there, or something similar. Anyway, I asked them how they liked their program - they were all pretty unanimous and said they adored it. They mentioned that the training was very extensive, very detailed. From what I hear, there's a pretty big waiting list to be admitted into the RN program (otherwise, you're just a general studies student, like at VCC). The program there is also quite a bit more expensive than VCC, too, though the students told me you're eligible to work as a nurse tech after your first semester of clinicals. Most of them work at Florida Hospital after graduation, and the hospital will pay for your BSN completion courses (also offered there at the FHCHS campus).

I don't know if that helped you any! I'm interested to hear, too, what others have to say about the two programs, as I've really never heard anything negative about either (except for the cost for FH and the wait list for both).

Good luck! :)

Hi Cara,

I just graduated from Lake Sumter Community College in Clermont, about 15 miles west of Orlando, and it has a fantastic program. When I joined the program they had the second highest pass rate in the state. I'm not sure what it's ranked now but it's probably the same or close to it. If you're in west orlando you might want to consider applying. There were some people in my class that drove more than an hour to attend the program.

Hello Cara I just applied to FH College for a transfer. I was extremely impressed with their school. I went for a tour and they have the most state of the art equipmet. I'm currently attending Keiser school of nursing in melbourne. I like keiser but the drive is long. I tried to apply at valencia but the waiting list is so long.

I would recommend florida hospital. They still are accepting applications for there 1/05 start until July 1. Give them a call. Hey we might even be in the same class.

Hi Cara. I attend VCC as well and will be applying for the LPN to RN Bridge Program as soon as i am licensed as an LPN next year. I have all of my pre-reqs and 2 classes away from finishing my AA degree. I got a little discouraged at VCC b/c i wish i would have done things a little differently and i could have been done, but sometimes think don't work out the way you want them to. So, i turned to my plan B with the long waiting list at VCC and decided to copleted one year as an LPN and then come back. I checked out Florida Hospital as well and it's an extremly nice college, the only thing that seems to be alittle different from VCC is they require you to have a few additional classes (i think one was a computer course and you also have to have chemistry out the way. Both are great colleges. Are you going for your BSN? Good luck to ya:)

I'm bored today, so I'm answering old threds.

This is what I have to say....

I was a Valencia student until the end of Fall 04. I transfered to Florida Hospital and took their pre-reqs over the spring of 05. I got accepted at the end of the semester for the Fall 05 program and I start August 26th 2005. So.... I LOVE Florida Hospital!!! Valencia has a great program, but I had some discussions with the Nursing department and the waiting list thing is just ridiculous!! I cant wait over a year out of school!!!! Florida Hospital its YES or NO. Or you start on the next semester or you must apply again with everyone else. Just the way I like it!!!

Both schools are great! Valencia had a 90% pass rate on the NCLEX and Florida Hospital had a 80% on 2004. This year though, Florida Hospital's number will shoot up, and Valencia's will remain about the same.
