If so, what department, what was your starting pay, how was/is the orientation period, and how do you like the job in itself? Thanks! I look foward to working there when I graduate in 2010:)

I just graduated 2 weeks ago, and just recently got hired for the NICU at Florida Hospital. I don't start until Feb. but the starting pay I was told for new grads are 21.44 right now for BSN, and thats w/o differentials. The training period is different depending on what unit you get hired to. For the NICU its 16 weeks, and I believe Med/Surg and Peds are only 12 weeks. Hope that helps.

My best friend works in the nicu there nights and loves it! Enjoy yourself : ). Now at Florida hospital now a girl in icu and she just started 2 weeks ago as a new grad making 21.75 so not a huge difference. My friend at winnie Palmer said that most of her coworkers choose to stay there instead of going to Florida hospital because they have the opportunity to make over time at winnie and Florida hospital is very strict on overtime. Is this true? I don't know but just some info for you.

She is level 3 too! Well maybe she will be your preceptor who knows. I'm sure you will really like it. The night shift diff doesn't hurt either.

thank you guys so much for responding! I had actually forgotten about this post because no one was replying! It's funny that both of you mentioned the NICU at FL because I eventually want to work in that dept. My plan is to get one year of med surg and then move on to mother/baby and work my way up to the NICU. It must be exciting starting off there! What school did you graduate from?

Hey SoonRN, they are hiring for the NICU for june so you should start applying now!! They only take applications online now so don't bother showing up at the HR. The only requirements you need are a nursing degree and BLS, and they will have you get certified for NRP during training. As for me, I absolutely LOVE the NICU and cant see myself doing anything else =) Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Hello chingy1206.... thanks alot for your reply... and the info. that you gave.

yes, i'll start applying as soon as i got my Florida license.. (my current is CA license, and im doing the endorsement process now..)

so where can I have that BLS? and by the way, what is NRP? thanks alot for your time... and its really goood to hear that you're doing what you LOVE the most... always take care... and God bless you!!!!!

You can go to the american heart association website and look up locations around where you live for places that offer BLS classes. NRP stands for Neonatal Resuscitation Program, basically a class specific to neonates :)

im not a new grad but looking for a job in nicu, have 8 years experience. having hard time finding nicu jobs. is your unit still hiring. would you mind giving me your unit manager name and number. thanks
