Scheduling: per diem and part time job

Has anyone worked at two facilities, one as a per diem (8 days per month) and the other as a part time OR nurse (8 hour shift)?

I am currently in that situation. So this is my first time picking up a per diem position. I am required to give 8 days..but if they (per diem facility) call me in, can I just say I am not available that day if I am working at the other place? Or will I get dinged? I just don't know how to schedule myself.

I didn't work in the OR but I worked flex pool with a hospital (3-4 12hr shifts a week) and per diem with two agencies. The employer can tell you what their policy is. I have never seen one where you would be required to be on call all the time without being paid to wait for the phone to ring (kind of defeats the purpose of being per diem). The only down side is if you turn them down a lot, then they probably won't call you much when you're not scheduled, unless other staff has already turned them down.
